ABOUT US

We are your stereotypical Midwestern family of 8. We are family and church oriented with an appreciation and love of small town communities. And most importantly, we all love beagles!

Located on 12 acres in rural Avon, South Dakota, Evergreen Hill is our beloved farmstead. We sit atop a hill nestled within two hearty evergreen and hackberry windbreaks. In our mile section, our only neighbors are the many crops and wildlife. Our grain shed is home to a herd of Boer goats (named Mario, Harriet, Brownie, etc.) and a small miniature horse herd (named Epitome, Reggie, and Precious). We are also blessed with a stocked pond not to far past our backyard. Our Hill boasts plenty of room and adventures for all our children and their four-legged companions.

I have nearly 18 years experience raising and caring for beagles as I grew up being involved and educated by my father, Dean Schroeder of Lonesome Grove Beagles. My passion for beagles was solidified with the adoption of our tri-color beagle, Natasha, from Romania. She was wonderful with the kids and put a smile on even the grumpiest of hardworking men. She was a well-known figure in our neighborhood due to her friendly personality and tendency to explore the countryside. In the Spring of 2019, she passed away as a result of getting hit by a truck. The loss devastated our family. It was obvious the positive influence Natasha had made on everybody, and it took only a matter of days to decide we needed a beagle back in our lives. A short while later, we were blessed with the opportunity to not only add a beagle to the family once more, but two! And Ellie and River joined the family. At that point it was clear, we are a Beagle family and we wanted to offer more options for others to understand and receive the benefits of having a Beagle companion. Thus, Evergreen Hill Beagles was born.
